Welcome. I'm Bradley Combs, owner of South Hill Construction.
Originally founded in 1960, South Hill Construction was a company run by my grandparents for over 50 years. Today, it is with great pride and respect that I continue the name by providing artisan masonry, excavation and consulting services in the Finger Lakes region of New York.
The hat pictured here once belonged to my grandfather, Edwin "Buck" Voorheis, who began teaching me when I was just 12 years old. We lived down the road (South Hill Road), and without my parents knowing, he would let me operate heavy equipment with the mindset "it's the only way to learn."
By 18, I was inspired to join the local mason's union, which eventually led to seven years of independent contracting under the name Finger Lakes Masonry. Meanwhile I also worked with my paternal grandfather and uncle, both of whom where skilled masons and home builders.
In 2017, each of these great men—Grandpa Buck, Grandpa Fay and Uncle Jimmy—succumbed to age and illness. I had been living in Portland, Oregon and returned to Burdett for their final days. It was during these moments that my passion grew stronger. I love masonry and construction; it's in my blood, and it always will be. I moved back to honor the family business and represent the new generation of South Hill Construction, here from sacred South Hill.
